Review: The Dishonorable Miss Delancey, by Carolyn Miller

dishonorablemissdelanceyWhat can I say about The Dishonorable Miss Delancey? This is a tale of the redeeming of a “mean girl”. Clara Delancey, who was a rival of Lady Charlotte’s in a previous book in the Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace Series, is rejected by society yet she finds a new life in God and the love of a good man. This tale of redemption shows how God mends the broken and exalts the downtrodden.

I am a hopeless romantic so, of course, I must comment on that element in the story. It is so fresh, so real and honest. Carolyn portrays a chaste romance between Clara and Ben that reflects the values of Philippians 4:8, something we don’t always see in Christian romances these days. Another thing I love is how Ben, while acknowledging Clara’s downfalls, still views her as lovely, thereby reflecting the unconditional love God has for us.

Do recommend this book? Yes, most definitely. This is a five-star book! Not only is the romance sweet, the characters capturing and enduring, the settings vividly portrayed, but The Dishonorable Miss Delancey holds your attention, encourages you in your walk, and has the kind of ending that leaves you tearfully happy.

About the book:

“Will a damaged reputation and desire for society’s approval thwart the legacy of grace?

Tainted by scandal, forced to remove to Brighton from London, the Honorable Miss Clara DeLancey is a shadow of her former society self. A chance encounter sees a friendship slowly form with the sisters of an injured Naval captain, whose faith and blunt, high spirits are everything her mother despises.

Captain Benjamin Kemsley is not looking for a wife, especially not the penniless daughter of a Viscount, but the mysteries surrounding her appeal to his sense of fair play. But how can he dare to dream the impossible, when all his attention should be toward helping those he’d failed to protect?

Pushed into the highest echelons of Society, they must decide if maintaining family honour is more important than their hopes, while seeking to right the wrongs of the past, through the legacy of Grace.
